protection | back to overview | respiration

When the body is too hot the sweat glands are encouraged to produce perspiration which cools the body, also the blood vessels in the skin dilate (widen) which helps heat leave the body via the surface of the skin. When the body is cold the blood vessels constrict (narrow) to retain heat.
