The skin is also a sensory organ containing many cells that are sensitive to touch, temperature, pain and pressure. This is a protective roll in its self, warning the body of any potential danger. Sending messages to the brain assessments can be made as to what response should be taken, i.e.- move away from a potential hazard or there is no danger from the stimulus, or the hazard was dangerous and its too late!
