Your health is your future...
Developed in Japan, Shiatsu is not that old, only around 100 years. However the theory that it is based on and some of the techniques it uses are ancient. Anma (massage) was performed by the blind. The heightened awareness to the remaining senses when one of the senses is lost can be immense. The Anma practitioners, who were blind, developed their tactile abilities and their sense of touch became magnified by many times. The development of this sense to an extremely high level enabled them to diagnose and restore balance to the body with their hands. These skills we then passed on to the sighted practitioners.
Shiatsu is becoming widely used by the general population and some NHS hospitals are employing Shiatsu therapists to benefit their patients.
