Anorexia

Treatment of Anorexia must be divided into two stages:

  • The establishment of initial contact of sympathy and rapport, together with restoration of the client to normal body weight and capacity for living, by a carefully maintained nursing, dietetic and supportive therapeutic regime, in bed, in hospital.
  • The second, is the treatment of the underlying psycho-pathological disorder, whatever it may be, by means of insight psychotherapy and supportive psychotherapy.

Hypochondriasis can be defined as a morbid pre-occupation with the maintenance of bodily health or the possibility of disease.

Hypochodriacal ideas of delusional intensity might constitute the presenting feature of depression.

The simplest form of hypochondriasis is most likely to be found in the age group involving adolescence and young adults.

A life chart is a useful way of arranging all the data received and helps in the making of correlations regarding the patients history. This enables the student to be more observant, careful and effective as a therapist.

The abstractions of intelligence, emotional integration and instinctive drive, provide the therapist with a framework for clear description and understanding of the clients mental state.
