The categories of delusions fall into either (a) primary (b) secondary.
- Primary delusions are spontaneous ideas, which arise in the clients mind and although manifestly false, possess for the client a degree of subjective certainty and a conviction, which cannot be altered.
- Secondary delusions are equally mistaken ideas of intensity and conviction but where the client is trying to attempt an explanation for (i) hallucinations (ii) ideas of reference (iii) primary delusions.
Exploration in relation to memory should involve:
- Remote past.
- Recent past.
- Immediate retention.
A constructive diagnosis should take into account.
- Psychological factors.
- Organic factors.
- Social factors.
Which underline his emotional problems.
