This is a chronic dermatitis with a distinctive look. It is often a red, scaly and itchy rash that develops on the face (particularly the nose and eyebrows).
It is also distributed in areas rich in sebaceous glands, mainly the scalp, face, upper trunk and in some cases the armpit and groin. The common condition "dandruff" actually is Seborrhoeic Dermatitis. It often develops during times of stress, but its exact cause is unknown.
"Infantile Seborrhoeic Dermatitis" first appears between 2 weeks and 6 months of life. Often called "cradle cap" when effecting the head, but can effect many other areas. Generally the baby will be well with no disturbance in their sleep or appetite, and very little itching.
"Adult Seborrhoeic Dermatitis" generally effects 1-3% of the population. It is also common to see this skin condition as an adjunct to specific diseases that are not associated with the skin.
Any itching is usually described as moderate.
Chinese Herbal Medicine can be very effective in the treatment of this disease.
Treatment available via biomedicine is the use of corticosteroid drugs and the use of drugs to kill micro organisms.
