Treated Conditions - Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)

These are most commonly found in the forearm, wrist and hand. There is sometimes an association with the neck. Problems develop due to a high number of systematic repetitive movements involving the same structures. The most common areas to be affected are the wrist and hand Tendons and the Tendon sheaths, this causes Tendonitis and Tenosynovitis respectively.

Tendonitis is the inflammation of the Tendons due to a high number of repetitive contractions in a short space of time. Tenosynovitis is the inflammation of the sheaths that Tendons pass through due to the repetitive friction of the Tendons movement against the inner lining of the surrounding Tendon sheath. In both cases the wrist and hand positioning, number of repetitive actions and time spent are key related issues.

The pain associated can cause inability to operate the wrist and hand affected. Hence if work related can case a serious issue regarding the long-term use in that type of working environment. The most common being computer work. Early treatment is best to try and limit a chronic situation developing.
