Treated Conditions - Nummular Eczema

This type of Eczema usually occurs in adults. These are well demarked coin shaped patches. If itching is present it is usually described as mild to moderate. The areas of the body effected tends to be below the elbow, below the knee and on the torso (body). It is also known as Discoid Eczema. The names it has been given are both descriptive terms referring to the distinctive shape of the Eczema, which when compared to other forms of Eczema, are well circumscribed with a clear distinction between the normal skin and the Eczema.

There are two groups of people this skin disease tends to effect, they are:

  • Professionals/managerial men between the ages of 50 and 65.
  • Young women between the ages 17 and 25 who have an Atopic tendency (suffer from Atopic Eczema, Asthma, Rhinitis)

Often brought on by:

  • Emotional Stress
  • Bacterial infection
  • Dry skin due to low environmental humidity (dry air) from central heating, car heaters, detergents, winter etc.
  • Physical or chemical trauma. The Eczema may erupt in the sight of an old scar or fresh injury, of following localised application by irritating chemicals.

Traditional Chinese names for this condition are "Damp toxic sore".

Chinese Herbal Medicine is very effective in treating this condition.

Conventional treatment (Biomedicine) is provided with the external application of steroid and antibacterial treatments, although the disorder is persistent and often resistant to these forms of treatment
