Treated Conditions - Anklosing Spondylosis

Due to a deficiency within the HLA B27 Antigen, excessive bone proliferation occurs leading to Anklosing Spondylosis. This usually starts in the lower back in the Sacro-Iliac joints, working its way up through the Lumbar, Dorsal and Cervical spine.

The bone proliferation causes fusion across the joints ending up with a “Bamboo Spine”, whereby the spine is completely fused together as one complete bone instead of individual joints, the Dorsal spine immobility will affect the rib cage and hence breathing. This fusion process is obviously very disabling; keeping mobility where possible is essential.
